Delhi Raises Income Cap for Ration Cards
The Delhi government has increased the annual income limit for people who can apply for ration cards from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh.
This change will help more low-income families get food security benefits.
The government found that many people who were not eligible were using the system, and many who needed help were waiting for a long time.
So, they made new rules to make sure the most needy families get help first.
Now, families with higher incomes or certain properties will not be eligible.
The government will also check applications more carefully to make sure the right people get benefits.
The 'first-come, first-served' system has been discontinued, and applications will be examined and prioritized through district-level committees.
Delhi government raised the annual income cap for ration card eligibility to Rs 1.2 lakh from Rs 1 lakh.
Over 3,89,883 applications for ration cards have been pending due to unclear rules.
More than 11,65,965 people are waiting for food security benefits.
New rules prioritize the most needy families and disqualify those with higher incomes or certain properties.
Income certificates issued by the revenue department are now mandatory for ration card applications.
