Republican Lawmaker Urges Scrutiny of South Korea’s China Ties

A U.S. lawmaker is worried that South Korea is becoming closer to China.

He asked the U.S. government to watch this relationship more carefully.

He pointed to meetings between South Korean and Chinese leaders.

He also cited South Korean chip factories in China as a possible risk for technology supplies.

The lawmaker said South Korea may treat some Chinese online businesses more favorably than American companies.

South Korea said its alliance with the United States is still the most important part of its foreign policy.

South Korea also said it wants to manage its relationship with China.

The disagreement comes after recent tensions between Washington and Seoul.

The lawmaker wants a State Department briefing about the issue by October 31.
