Bangladesh Takes China Envoy to Teesta Project Site
The leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, took the Chinese ambassador, Yao Wen, to a place near the Teesta River.
This river is important because it's close to a part of India called the Siliguri corridor, which some people call the 'Chicken’s Neck.'
The Chinese ambassador was there to check on a project to manage and restore the Teesta River.
Some people in Bangladesh and India are worried because Yunus has said things in the past that made India upset, like calling a part of India 'landlocked' and suggesting China should have more control there.
But Yunus says he wants Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and some states in India to work together on things like electricity, hospitals, and roads.
The Chinese ambassador also met with other important people in Bangladesh and said China wants to finish the river project quickly.
India is concerned about China's growing influence in the region and views Bangladesh's actions as a potential threat to its national security.
Bangladesh's interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen to the Teesta River project site near India's Siliguri corridor.
The visit focused on a technical assessment for the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project.
Tensions have risen due to Yunus's past remarks about India's Northeast being 'landlocked' and suggestions of Chinese economic expansion.
The Chinese ambassador met with Bangladesh's national security adviser and discussed mutual interests, including the Teesta project and a proposed hospital.
Yunus has called for an integrated economic strategy among Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and India's Northeast states.
