Tejaswin Shankar Seeks Decathlon Medal in Birmingham
Tejaswin Shankar is a young athlete from India who is competing in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
He did very well on the first day, finishing second overall and only 14 points behind the leader, Damian Warner from Canada.
Shankar jumped high and jumped long, earning a lot of points.
He was a bit slower in the 100‑meter run and the shot put, but he did well in the 400‑meter run.
Now he has five more events to do, like hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and a long run.
If he does well in the pole vault and javelin, he could still win a medal.
The competition will finish after the 1500‑meter run on the second day.
Tejaswin Shankar finished Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games men's decathlon in second place with 4,339 points.
He is only 14 points behind Canadian leader Damian Warner, who has 4,353 points.
Shankar earned strong points in the high jump (944) and long jump (1,015).
He was slower in the 100m (870 points) and shot put (673 points) but recovered with a 49.51‑second 400m (837 points).
The remaining five events—110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m—will decide his medal chances.
