Delhi Revises Private School Recognition and Land Rules

Delhi has changed some rules for private schools.

A school no longer has to show, under one recognition rule, that its neighborhood needs another school.

It also no longer has to prove that it will not reduce enrolment at a nearby recognized school under that rule.

Some schools proposed by societies or public trusts on privately owned commercial land do not need the public-interest check described in Rule 44(3).

But schools seeking certain government or municipal land still need an Essentiality Certificate, which checks whether the area needs the school.

Schools must still meet other requirements, such as rules about management, teaching and infrastructure.

The final rules kept part of a rule that an August draft had proposed deleting.

The government said no objections or suggestions were submitted during the public-feedback period.
