Lok Sabha Adjourns Amid Opposition Disruption; Anti‑Paper Leak Bill Passes
The Indian Parliament’s lower house, called the Lok Sabha, stopped its meeting at 2 p.m.
because some members were shouting and causing trouble.
They had just passed a new law that makes it harder for people to cheat on exams by leaking test papers.
The law was approved by a quick voice vote after a long debate.
Some lawmakers from the ruling party said the law will fix exam problems, while opposition lawmakers said it might not solve the real causes of cheating.
The new law will be discussed again in the upper house, the Rajya Sabha, for about six hours.
Lok Sabha adjourned until 2 p.m. after opposition disrupted Question Hour.
The anti‑paper leak Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 was passed via voice vote after two days of debate.
The bill aims to strengthen transparency and punish paper leaks in exams, following student protests and the 'Sansad Chalo' movement.
Opposition members questioned whether the amendments address root causes of exam failures and leaks, while NDA allies supported wider reforms.
The bill will be taken up in Rajya Sabha for a six‑hour discussion on Thursday.
