NGT Orders Tree Census and Geo-tagging After Tree Felling Claims
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is making sure that trees in Madhya Pradesh are protected.
Someone complained that 700 trees were cut down illegally near a special wetland.
The NGT has ordered officials to count all the trees in the state and keep track of them using location technology.
They're also forming a committee to look into the complaint.
The court is worried about the environmental impact, as it would take many years to regrow the lost green cover.
They also noticed that the green areas in Bhopal have been decreasing significantly over the years.
NGT directed a state-wide tree census and geo-tagging of trees in Madhya Pradesh.
The order followed a plea alleging the illegal felling of 700 trees near Bhoj Wetland.
A joint committee will investigate the alleged tree felling.
NGT ordered a High-Level Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC) for reviewing development projects affecting trees.
The tribunal noted a media report indicating significant decline in Bhopal's green cover.
