Mumbai Fire Brigade to get new high-rise platforms
The Mumbai Fire Brigade is getting new, taller platforms to help with fires and rescues in very tall buildings.
These platforms can reach up to 104 meters, which is like 35 floors.
The current one can only reach 90 meters.
The brigade is getting these new platforms because many buildings in Mumbai are now much taller, and they need to be able to help people quickly.
Most fires happen in these tall buildings, and the new platforms will help firefighters reach people who are trapped.
The brigade plans to have these new platforms ready by the end of this year.
Mumbai Fire Brigade to acquire new hydraulic-powered high-rise platforms (snorkels) that can reach up to 104 metres (35 storeys).
Current platform can reach up to 90 metres (30 storeys) and was added in 2015.
New platforms aim to improve emergency response in taller buildings, as many now have 40 storeys or more.
Over 80% of fires in Mumbai originate in high-rises, often lacking in-house firefighting mechanisms.
MFB plans to induct the new platforms by the end of 2024 for use in 2026.
