Italy to Issue Almost 500,000 Work Visas Through 2028
Italy is planning to give out nearly 500,000 work visas to people from outside the European Union between 2026 and 2028.
This is meant to help with the country's worker shortage and an aging population, where there are fewer young people.
Starting next year, over 164,000 work permits will be available.
The government hopes this will also benefit important sectors of the economy, like farming, ensuring there are enough workers to keep them running.
This plan is part of a larger strategy of expanding legal immigration channels.
Italy will issue nearly 500,000 new work visas for non-EU nationals from 2026 to 2028.
This is the second such move by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
164,850 new work permits will be issued next year.
The plan addresses labor shortages and an aging population.
Agricultural lobby Coldiretti welcomed the plan, supporting food production.
