Minister Urges States to Adopt Water-Based Rabi Planning

Minister Urges States to Adopt Water-Based Rabi Planning

The agriculture minister asked states to plan winter crops based on available water, not old habits.

Rainfall has been uneven across different parts of the country.

Some areas have plenty of water, while others may face shortages.

Officials should check reservoirs, irrigation systems and soil moisture before recommending crops.

Farmers in water-short areas should avoid crops that need a lot of water.

The government also wants more pulses and oilseeds, such as gram, lentil and mustard, to be grown.

Better buying systems and markets could encourage farmers to grow these crops.

Fertiliser should also reach farmers on time.
