RBI Sets Conditions for Hinduja Group's IndusInd Bank Investment
The RBI is talking to the Hinduja Group, which owns part of IndusInd Bank, about letting them put more money into the bank.
The RBI has some rules: the Hinduja Group must remove the existing pledge on their shares and have a representative on the bank's board.
The Hinduja Group currently owns about 15% of the bank, but a large portion of those shares are already pledged.
The RBI might not allow them to buy more shares until the existing share pledge is resolved.
This is because of regulatory concerns about the group's awareness of the bank's day-to-day operations.
The bank is also dealing with some problems, like accounting issues.
RBI communicated prerequisites to Hinduja Group for infusing capital into IndusInd Bank.
Conditions include revoking the pledge on promoters' shareholding and appointing a board member.
The Hinduja Group currently holds a 15.83% stake in IndusInd Bank.
Around 51% of the promoters' stake is pledged, potentially related to Reliance Capital acquisition funding.
RBI may require the pledge to be released before allowing the group to increase their stake.
