Haider: Shahid Kapoor's Kashmir Revenge Drama Re-examined

Haider is a movie made in 2014 by a filmmaker named Vishal Bhardwaj.

It is a retelling of a very famous old play called Hamlet, but the story happens in a place called Kashmir in the year 1995.

Back then, Kashmir was going through a very difficult and violent time.

The main character, Haider, is a young man played by Shahid Kapoor.

He goes back home to Kashmir because his father, a doctor, has suddenly disappeared.

Haider starts looking for his father and gets pulled into a dangerous world.

He finds out that his uncle, Khurram, had something to do with what happened to his dad.

This makes Haider very sad and very angry.

His sadness turns into a strong wish for revenge, which he calls 'intekaam'.
