Trump, Zelenskyy Discuss Ukraine Peace Deal

Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy met to talk about ending the war in Ukraine.

They discussed important issues like security and the Donbas region.

Trump also spoke to Vladimir Putin before meeting Zelenskyy.

Both leaders think they are close to an agreement, but some tough issues still need to be solved.

They plan to keep talking and might involve European leaders in future meetings.

Zelenskyy said an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine has been reached.

Trump was slightly more cautious, saying that they were 95% of the way to such an agreement.

The Kremlin said Ukraine should withdraw its troops from the part of Donbas it still controls if it wants peace.

Zelenskyy also called for a referendum on the peace plan and a 60-day ceasefire for talks.

Russia currently controls about 19.2% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
