Southern Leaders Press NEET, Delimitation, Water and Fiscal Demands

Southern Indian leaders met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Mahabalipuram.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said the NEET exam can make medical admissions harder for poor, rural and disadvantaged students.

He asked Tamil Nadu to use Class XII marks for some medical seats instead.

Vijay also worried that changing parliamentary boundaries could reduce the South’s political representation.

Karnataka’s DK Shivakumar requested protections for the South’s representation and more financial support for Karnataka.

The leaders discussed the Cauvery River and several ideas for sharing or connecting water.

Andhra Pradesh suggested large water and transport projects involving southern states.

Kerala and Telangana raised issues involving health care, coastal protection, security and cooperation.
