Lok Sabha Speaker Warns Over E-Cigarette Use
The Speaker of the Lok Sabha, which is like the main meeting place for India's lawmakers, said that using an e-cigarette in the House is very serious.
Someone from the BJP party told the Speaker that someone from the TMC party was using an e-cigarette during a meeting, even though these devices are not allowed.
The Speaker said that this is not acceptable and that the person could be punished, maybe even by losing their job as a lawmaker.
The Speaker is going to look into what happened and then decide what to do.
Meanwhile, the budget session of the Parliament will begin on January 28, 2026, with the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 to be presented on February 1, 2026, which is a Sunday for the first time.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla warned of exemplary punishment for alleged e-cigarette use in the House.
BJP member Anurag Thakur complained that a TMC member was openly using an e-cigarette during proceedings.
E-cigarettes are banned across the country, including in the Lok Sabha.
The matter is under investigation and will be referred to a House committee for further action.
