Google legend Jeff Dean departs to launch AI startup Discovery Loop
Jeff Dean is a very famous computer expert who worked at Google for 27 years.
He helped build important technology that makes modern computers work.
A young intern once sent him a random meeting invitation as a fun experiment.
To everyone's surprise, Jeff said yes and met with him.
The intern shared the story online, and it went viral.
Jeff saw the post and said he remembered their nice chat.
Now Jeff is leaving Google to start a new company called Discovery Loop.
His new company will use artificial intelligence to help scientists run experiments automatically.
It wants to propose and test thousands of experiments all at once.
Some people worry that Jeff's departure will make it harder for Google to attract top AI experts.
Former Google intern Yoonseok Yang shared on X that Jeff Dean accepted his random 2022 calendar invite, and Dean replied, 'I remember this.'
Jeff Dean is departing Google after a 27-year career of foundational engineering breakthroughs.
Dean is launching a new AI startup, Discovery Loop, with Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le.
Discovery Loop, a public benefit corporation, aims to use AI to automate experimental workflows in science and engineering.
Current and former employees say Dean's departure may hurt Google's AI morale and talent recruitment amid competition from OpenAI and Anthropic PBC.
