India Launches Bharat Forecast System for High-Accuracy Weather Forecasting
India now has a super-detailed weather prediction system called the Bharat Forecast System (BFS).
It's like a super-powered weather map that can show details very clearly, at 6-kilometer sections, much better than other countries.
It was made in India and will help predict things like rain, cyclones, and heatwaves better than before.
This new system helps forecast extreme weather, which helps the agriculture, water management, and infrastructure sectors.
This system uses fast computers to make accurate forecasts and improve predictions by up to 30%.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) launched the Bharat Forecast System (BFS).
BFS is an indigenously developed weather prediction model.
The BFS has a 6-kilometer resolution grid, surpassing models in the UK, US, and EU.
The system was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune.
BFS is expected to improve forecasts for extreme weather events.
