CUNY Opens Research Center Named for Indian Educator Achyuta Samanta
Imagine a school in America, CUNY, opening a special place to learn about India, particularly the state of Odisha.
They named it after a very important Indian teacher, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, who helps lots of kids go to school.
This new place will study Odisha's culture and how its people live.
It will also learn about how Dr. Samanta helps children learn.
This is a big deal because it’s the first time America has named a place after an Indian, showing how much they want to learn from India.
It’s like a window for American students to look into India's culture and values.
CUNY launched the Achyuta Samanta India Initiative CUNY Crest Institute (ASIICCI) in New York.
The institute honors Indian educationist Dr. Achyuta Samanta, marking the first such recognition in America.
ASIICCI will focus on Indian culture, tribal communities, and Dr. Samanta's educational model.
Dr. Samanta received the Presidential Medal, CUNY's highest honor, at the inauguration.
The initiative stems from a visit by Dr. Milton Santiago to KIIT and KISS in Bhubaneswar.
