Delhi Court Acquits Two in 2020 Riots Case
A court in Delhi has decided that two men, Mohammed Farooq and Mohammed Shadab, are not guilty of the crimes they were accused of during the 2020 Delhi riots.
The court said that the main witness's testimony was not reliable, and there were mistakes in the evidence presented.
The men were accused of setting things on fire, stealing, and damaging property on February 25, 2020.
The court looked at a video clip that was supposed to show the men in a mob, but the video was from a day before the incident.
The court also noted that the police did not prepare a proper plan of the damaged property, which made the case weaker.
Because of these doubts, the court decided to let the two men go.
A Delhi court acquitted Mohammed Farooq and Mohammed Shadab of charges related to the 2020 Delhi riots.
The men were accused of rioting, arson, theft, and vandalism in the Chang Bangh area on February 25, 2020.
The judge found serious doubts about the credibility of the prosecution's key witness, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil.
The court noted that a video clip used as evidence was from February 24, a day before the incident in question.
The complainant's statement that the police did not prepare a site plan of her house in her presence was also a factor in the acquittal.
