Air India Express Flight Returns After Engine Oil Emergency

Air India Express Flight Returns After Engine Oil Emergency

An Air India Express plane was flying from Kochi to Abu Dhabi.

About 50 minutes after takeoff, the pilots noticed that one engine was losing oil quickly.

The plane was flying about 36,000 feet above the ground.

The pilots decided it was safer to return to Kochi instead of continuing to Abu Dhabi.

The oil pressure in that engine later dropped into a dangerous range.

The pilots shut down the affected engine while the plane was still flying.

The Boeing 737 then landed safely at Cochin International Airport.

Reports said passengers and crew were safe, although the number of people aboard was not known.

Investigators will need to determine why the oil level and pressure fell so quickly.
