J&K Govt: Free Electricity Tied to Rooftop Solar Panel Installation

The government in Jammu and Kashmir explained that a promise to give free electricity to families who need it most will happen only after they get special solar panels put on their roofs.

These solar panels will help each family get up to 200 units of electricity for free every month.

The government has already picked over 2 lakh families who will receive these panels.

They are getting everything ready for the installation, like detailed plans and getting companies to do the work.

They said it will start soon after all the permissions are given.

The government also mentioned they have put in over 6.5 lakh smart electricity meters and have no plans to let private companies manage them.

Some people in the assembly wanted the free electricity to start quickly because it's getting cold and electricity bills are high, but the government reiterated the solar panel requirement for the free power.
