West Bengal Announces Scholarships, Schools and Curriculum Reforms

West Bengal has announced several proposed changes to improve education.

The state wants to create two modern model schools in every district.

These schools would have digital tools and admissions from Class 6 through entrance tests.

The government also plans to improve buildings, drinking water, meals, libraries and classrooms.

More attention would be given to sports, music and activities outside regular lessons.

Schools may restrict students’ use of mobile phones to help them concentrate.

The curriculum could include the work of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Swami Pranabananda.

New innovation laboratories are planned for 1,000 schools.

A new scholarship scheme would help talented students study at leading institutions in India and other countries.
