SFI Activist Accused in ED Attack Detained at Chennai Airport
A young man named Adarsh is part of a student group called SFI in Kerala, India.
The police say he was involved in attacking officials who do financial investigations, called the ED.
Those officials had gone to search the house of Pinarayi Vijayan, who used to be the chief minister of Kerala.
They were looking into money matters connected to his daughter's company and a sand mining company.
After the search, the officials were leaving, but a group of people attacked their cars, and a few people who worked with the officials got hurt.
Police watched videos of the attack and figured out that Adarsh was part of it.
But before police could catch him, he flew to a city called Dubai.
So the police put out a special alert at airports, called a lookout circular.
When Adarsh came back from Dubai to India, he was stopped and taken into custody at Chennai airport.
Now police officers are going to Chennai to bring him back for questioning.
SFI activist Adarsh, a member of the SFI Chala Area Committee, was detained at Chennai airport on Monday after arriving from Dubai.
He is accused in a case related to a mob attack on ED officials returning from a search at the Thiruvananthapuram residence of former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Police identified Adarsh through analysis of visuals of the incident and had issued a lookout circular after he left for Dubai.
The May 27 ED search was part of a money laundering probe into financial dealings between Vijayan's daughter's firm and sand mining company Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd.
Around 300 CPI(M), DYFI and SFI activists face a case over the attack, which injured a driver, a CRPF officer, and a search team member, and the Kerala High Court recently granted bail to some arrested persons.
