Lok Sabha reshuffles seating for TMC MPs
The Lok Sabha, which is like the main meeting place for India's lawmakers, has changed where some members sit.
This is because 20 members who used to be in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party have joined a new party called the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
To make space for these new members, 39 other members, including important leaders like Abhishek Banerjee and Sudip Bandyopadhyay, have been moved to different seats.
Abhishek Banerjee, who is a big leader in the TMC, has been moved to a seat in the back row, while Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who is now in the NCPI, has been moved to a new seat.
The TMC now has only 8 members left in the Lok Sabha, and they have been given seats in the second row.
Other members like Mahua Moitra and Sougata Roy have also been moved to new seats.
This change is important because the seat number is used for voting and other official work in the Parliament.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla approved a major reshuffle in the seating arrangement of 39 MPs.
Abhishek Banerjee, a key TMC leader, was moved to seat number 281, previously occupied by Kalyan Bandyopadhyay.
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who joined the NCPI, was shifted from seat number 280 to 354.
The reshuffle was necessitated by the need to accommodate 20 rebel TMC MPs who are now recognized as NCPI members.
The TMC's strength in the Lok Sabha has reduced to 8 MPs, with the remaining members allotted seats in the second row.
