Supreme Court Hears Plea on Wangchuk's NSA Detention
The Supreme Court of India is hearing a plea from the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on September 26, 2025.
The government says he incited violence during protests in Ladakh that demanded statehood and special status, resulting in four deaths and 90 injuries.
Wangchuk's lawyer, Kapil Sibal, argues that the detention order was issued without proper consideration and that the grounds for detention were copied from the police recommendations without any changes.
The court is examining whether the detention order was legally valid and whether Wangchuk was given all the necessary information to defend himself.
The hearing will continue on Tuesday.
