Centre Increases Export Incentives for Onions Following MP's Demand
Imagine farmers grow lots of onions, so many that the price goes down a lot.
To help the farmers and sell the extra onions, the government gives money back to people who send onions to other countries.
This is like giving a discount for shipping and other costs.
A special leader from a place called Nashik, which is known for onions, asked the government to give more of this money back.
The government listened and decided to give a bigger discount, called RoDTEP and TMA, to help sell more onions overseas.
This will help farmers get a better price for their hard work and compete with other countries selling onions cheaper.
The Central Government has increased export incentives for onions following a demand from Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje.
MP Waje requested an increase in RoDTEP to 5% and TMA to 7% for onion exports.
The government has accepted these suggestions, with Union Minister Piyush Goyal communicating the decision to MP Waje.
Abundant onion production this year led to falling wholesale prices, impacting farmers' ability to recover costs.
The move aims to boost exports, absorb surplus production, and enhance the competitiveness of Indian onions against lower-priced international competitors.
