Nepal’s 2026 Flash Flood Ranks Among Its Deadliest Disasters

A large piece of glacier broke apart in the Himalayas in 2026.

This sent ice, rocks, mud and water rushing into rivers in Nepal and Tibet.

The floods destroyed homes, roads, bridges and power facilities.

Many people died, but reports gave different numbers for Nepal’s toll, ranging from 270 to more than 300.

The total number of deaths in Nepal and Tibet was reported to be above 500.

More than 1,000 people were still missing.

Foreign visitors, including Indian tourists, were among those reported missing.

Officials warned that the death toll could rise because the disaster was so large.

Nepal’s worst recorded flood disaster happened in 1993, when 1,336 people died.
