Singapore IT Vendor Jailed Over State Courts File Access

Singapore IT Vendor Jailed Over State Courts File Access

An IT worker in Singapore used a government laptop to take an information-security exam.

His own laptop was broken, so he let another person connect to the government laptop remotely.

The laptop held 18,016 files belonging to Singapore’s State Courts.

The files included information that could potentially help someone enter court computer systems.

No files were actually copied during the connection.

However, the court said the risk was serious because the files could have been stolen or misused.

The worker pleaded guilty to putting the files at risk and changing the laptop without permission.

He was sentenced to 28 weeks in jail.
