Ladakh Committee to Reconvene Amid Impasse
A special committee called the High Powered Committee (HPC) is going to meet again in January.
This committee was made by the government to talk about how to protect the special culture and language of Ladakh.
The people of Ladakh have some big requests, like wanting their own state and special protections in the constitution.
The committee has already done some good things, like making sure most government jobs go to local people.
But there have been some disagreements, especially about one of the big requests.
The government has said no to some of the requests, but the committee is still trying to find solutions.
Some people are hoping this next meeting will help solve these problems.
The High Powered Committee (HPC) will reconvene in the last part of January to address Ladakh's concerns.
The HPC was set up to discuss measures to protect Ladakh's unique culture and language.
Key demands include statehood, inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, and draft proposals submitted by Ladakh's representative bodies.
The committee has secured protections like a 15-year prospective domicile clause and a 95% local quota in government recruitment.
The Centre has refused to concede on the demand for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule and has turned down the request for a legislature.
