Tibetan Community in Shimla Seeks UN Protection for Culture

Members of the Tibetan community held a protest in Shimla.

They wanted people around the world to pay attention to Tibet.

They asked the United Nations and world leaders to help protect Tibetan language and culture.

The protesters criticized a Chinese law that they said gives greater importance to Mandarin than minority languages.

They said this could harm the languages and cultures of Tibet and other regions.

The protesters also remembered Lopsang Palden.

They said he had self-immolated over the Tibet issue.

Community leaders said they would continue their campaign for Tibet and its cultural preservation.
