UEFA Threatens FIFA Legal Action Over Failed World Cup Sale Plan
Gianni Infantino, the boss of the world soccer group FIFA, tried to sell part of the money that comes from future World Cups to private investors.
He wanted to raise $4.2 billion and give each of the 211 soccer countries $20 million.
When the plan was leaked, people were very upset.
UEFA, the European soccer group, said it would not let FIFA do this and threatened to sue.
They also warned FIFA not to destroy any evidence.
Because of the backlash, Infantino pulled the plan and said FIFA would not sell the World Cup.
UEFA said it might even end Infantino’s time as president.
Many European soccer groups are now saying they will not support him.
UEFA threatened FIFA with legal action after Gianni Infantino’s $4.2 billion World Cup profit sale plan was exposed.
The proposal would have created a $20 billion spin‑off and paid federations $20 million each, but was withdrawn after backlash.
UEFA’s lawyers warned that destroying or altering evidence could be spoliation, naming 18 FIFA executives as potential witnesses.
UEFA called for a boycott of all FIFA events and said Infantino’s decade‑long presidency could end.
The plan was supported by about 200 of 211 federations, but many European federations are now withdrawing their support.
