Private Sector Now Eligible for Renewable Energy Implementing Agency Status
Imagine some companies as helpers in getting renewable energy.
The government is now allowing some private companies to become these helpers, called Renewable Energy Implementing Agencies (REIAs).
These companies must be big and have good credit.
They buy energy from power plants and sell it to others.
To be a helper, companies need a special license and must use online bidding to buy energy.
The goal is to help more renewable energy get used.
Private sector firms with a net worth over ₹500 crore and an 'A' credit rating can be REIAs.
REIAs act as intermediaries, procuring and selling renewable energy.
The Ministry of Power released guidelines for company designation as REIAs.
Applicants must hold a Category-I electricity trading license from CERC.
REIAs must adhere to e-bidding platforms and can't bid through subsidiaries.
