NCW chief seeks time-bound trials for crimes against women

Vijaya Rahatkar is the leader of a special group in India called the National Commission for Women.

Her job is to make sure women are treated fairly.

She said that when someone commits a very serious crime against a woman, courts should finish the case quickly.

She talked about a young woman named Shraddha who was killed in 2022.

The court has still not finished that case after four years.

Shraddha's father passed away before he could see justice happen.

That was very sad for her.

She also talked about a case in Maharashtra that went well, where a court gave a punishment in just 56 days.

Ms. Rahatkar wants every serious case to be handled that fast, so families can trust the justice system.
