Manjrekar Calls IPL Generation’s Test Cricket Adaptation A Mystery
Sanjay Manjrekar talked about how today’s cricketers play different kinds of cricket.
Many of them grew up playing fast T20 matches, including the IPL.
Test cricket is much longer and requires patience and concentration.
Batters also need different techniques in the two formats.
Manjrekar compared this change to a pop singer trying to sing classical music.
He said he was surprised that the current generation adapts so well.
His comments came while India’s young team was playing Sri Lanka.
The series consisted of two Test matches.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar called it a “mystery” that T20-raised players play such good Test cricket.
Manjrekar compared the transition from T20 cricket to Tests with pop singers attempting classical ragas.
He said the adjustment is especially remarkable for batters because T20 and Test batting differ greatly.
Modern players must shift from T20 aggression to the patience, technique and concentration required in Tests.
His comments came as India’s young squad played Sri Lanka in a two-Test series.
