Mumbai Traffic Updates: Heavy Vehicle Ban and Road Closures
The Mumbai Traffic Police have announced new rules to reduce traffic congestion and make roads safer.
Starting February 1, heavy vehicles will not be allowed in Mumbai during busy times in the morning and evening.
In South Mumbai, heavy vehicles are banned all day, except for a few hours at night.
Only vehicles carrying important goods like food, water, and fuel, as well as ambulances and school buses, are allowed.
The police also said heavy vehicles can only park in special areas, not on public roads.
These rules were made after getting feedback from the public and seeing how crowded the roads have become.
Additionally, from February 3 to 5, a section of the Pune–Satara highway between the New Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge will be closed for two hours each morning to install speed-control cameras.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this time.
The speed limit on the Katraj bypass has also been reduced to 30 kmph following a major accident in November.
Heavy vehicles banned in Mumbai during peak hours (8 am-11 am, 5 pm-9 pm) starting February 1.
Stricter ban in South Mumbai: heavy vehicles prohibited from 7 am to 12 midnight, except for essential goods.
Exemptions include vehicles carrying essential commodities, ambulances, school buses, and government vehicles.
Heavy vehicles can only park in private, rented, or pay-and-park zones; public road parking is prohibited.
Road from New Katraj Tunnel to Navale Bridge closed from February 3 to 5 for speed-control camera installation.
