Bengaluru Innovators Save Textile Waste with AI
Two friends in Bengaluru, Vijaya and Ramki, started a company called KOSHA.ai to help textile artisans.
They saw that artisans were not getting fair pay for their beautiful work, and buyers couldn't always tell if the textiles were real.
So, they created special devices using AI to prove the authenticity of handmade textiles and to sort textile waste accurately.
These devices help save textile waste from landfills and reduce carbon emissions.
They also help artisans show customers how their products are made, which makes customers happy and willing to pay more.
KOSHA.ai has already saved a lot of textile waste and helped many artisans.
KOSHA.ai was founded by Vijaya Kumar Krishnappa and Ramakrishna Kodipady to address issues in the textile industry, including counterfeiting and artisan empowerment.
The company developed WeaveSENSE, an IoT device that attaches to handlooms to create a tamper-proof digital provenance trail for textiles.
FibreSENSE, another device, uses near-infrared spectroscopy and AI to accurately identify fibre composition in textile waste, improving recycling accuracy.
KOSHA.ai has saved 10,000 kg of textile waste, prevented 35,000 kg of CO₂ emissions, and empowered over 1,200 artisans.
The company collaborates with various organizations to promote sustainability and social equity in the textile industry.
