Iraq Proposes Joint Security Council With Iran and Saudi Arabia

Iraq Proposes Joint Security Council With Iran and Saudi Arabia

Iraq wants Iran and Saudi Arabia to work together on security.

These two countries are regional rivals and have often had tensions.

Iraq suggested creating a joint security coordination council.

The council would include Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

Iraq says it has already presented the idea to both countries.

Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s national security adviser, announced the proposal.

Iraq hopes the plan could reduce disagreements between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

It also wants to have more control over security matters inside Iraq.

The countries have not yet explained whether they will accept the plan.

No details are available about who would serve on the council or how it would operate.
