IITs and IIMs Face UGC Action Over Anti-Ragging Compliance
Some big schools like IITs and IIMs are in trouble because they didn't follow rules about stopping bullying, called ragging.
The government, the UGC, sent warnings to many schools because they didn't get promises from students and schools that they wouldn't allow ragging.
If the schools don't fix this soon, they could lose money or even be shut down.
These rules are in place to keep students safe.
Several IITs and IIMs are on a defaulter list for not following anti-ragging rules.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued show-cause notices to 89 institutions.
A total of 17 Institutes of National Importance are on the list.
Institutions failed to submit required anti-ragging undertakings, despite advisories.
The UGC may withdraw grants and funding, or derecognize institutions if non-compliance continues.
