Global Leaders Pledge $1.9 Billion to Eradicate Polio
Global leaders have promised $1.9 billion to help stop polio.
This money will help protect 370 million children every year from getting sick.
The World Health Organization and other groups are working together to make sure all children, especially in places where polio is still a problem, get the vaccines they need.
The money comes from different donors, like the Gates Foundation and Rotary International.
Even though there is still a small amount of money needed, this big promise will help a lot in the fight against polio.
Global leaders pledged $1.9 billion to eradicate polio, reducing the funding gap to $440 million.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) faces a 30% budget cut in 2026 and a $1.7 billion gap up to 2029.
The pledging event was hosted by the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity at Abu Dhabi Finance Week.
Major donors include the Gates Foundation ($1.2 billion) and Rotary International ($450 million).
The funds will focus on surveillance and vaccination in high-risk areas to protect 370 million children annually.
