Fresh tremors shake Nashik as seismic sequence continues in Maharashtra

Fresh tremors shake Nashik as seismic sequence continues in Maharashtra

Earthquakes happen when the ground shakes because the earth beneath us moves and bumps around.

In a place called Nashik, in the state of Maharashtra, the ground has been shaking a lot lately.

On August 14, the ground shook two more times, once just after midnight and once early in the morning.

These shakes were small, about 3.5 and 3.4 on the scale scientists use to measure earthquakes.

Many small shakes have been happening for weeks, starting near the end of July.

The biggest one so far happened on August 8, and it made small cracks appear in some houses, but nobody was hurt.

Now the government is checking buildings to make sure they are safe and strong.

They are also teaching people, especially students, how to be prepared.

Scientists say we cannot know for sure if a bigger earthquake is coming, so everyone is being careful and staying alert.
