AI and Robotics Can Boost India's Manufacturing GDP
Experts at a big meeting about manufacturing in India said that using artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics can help make India's factories better and increase the country's GDP by $1.1 trillion by 2047.
They explained that India needs to start using these new technologies now to become more competitive in the world.
They also talked about how important it is to teach workers new skills so they can use these new technologies.
The government is helping with programs to support this change.
One expert said that India has a lot of small businesses that need to improve their manufacturing systems.
Another expert said that India needs a clear plan for AI because there is a global competition in AI, and small businesses should not be left behind.
They suggested that the government should help bring advanced AI tools to these small businesses.
The experts also warned that if India does not adopt these new technologies, it could lose up to $1 trillion in GDP by 2047.
Additionally, sectors like next-gen e-commerce to renewable energy could drive $1.4 trillion–$1.9 trillion in GDP growth by 2035, shaping the nation’s economic future.
Experts at the CII Smart Manufacturing Summit 2025 emphasized the need for AI-driven transformation in India's manufacturing sector to boost GDP by $1.1 trillion by 2047.
Debashree Mukherjee highlighted the importance of building a future-ready workforce through the PM SETU scheme, which aims to establish an industry-led skilling architecture.
Tejpreet Singh Chopra stressed the urgency of improving manufacturing systems for 60 million MSMEs employing 230 million people and building a strong data foundation for AI-enabled manufacturing.
Government initiatives, including skilling and training programs, are supporting this transition, with a focus on advanced manufacturing to bridge a potential $5.1 trillion gap in manufacturing output by 2047.
Experts suggested policy support to bring high-end AI tools to small units and share success stories widely, with a focus on scaling applied AI use cases from large enterprises to MSME clusters.
