Punjab Residents Oppose Paper Mill at Public Hearing
People in many villages in Punjab are worried about a new paper mill.
They spoke up at a meeting and said they don't want it because it could pollute the water.
The meeting was about a report that said the mill might hurt the environment.
Almost everyone at the meeting voted against the mill.
The people are concerned that the mill could pollute the Buddha Dariya and Neelon Canal, which are used for drinking water.
They want the government to know how they feel so the mill doesn't get approved.
Residents of approximately 50 Punjab villages opposed a paper mill at a public hearing.
The hearing, held on April 30, 2025, addressed the environmental impact assessment of the mill.
The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) sent the hearing's proceedings to the Union environment ministry.
Most attendees voted against the mill's establishment.
Activists cited the proximity of the site to water sources as a pollution risk.
