India Secures Silver Medals in Shooting World Championships
At the Shooting World Championships in Cairo, two Indian shooting teams came very close to winning gold medals but had to settle for silver.
In a rifle shooting event, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was competing against the Olympic champion from China.
On the very last shot, Aishwary made a small mistake due to pressure and lost the gold medal by a tiny margin.
A few hours later, another Indian pair, Esha Singh and Samrat Rana, were also tied in their air pistol shooting match.
They also couldn't hit the highest scoring area on their final shots, leading to them losing the gold medal to a Chinese team.
Although they missed the gold, these silver medals, along with other medals won by India in the competition, are seen as a success, especially because these events are part of the Olympics.
Experts believe Indian shooters are getting better at handling tough outdoor conditions like wind.
Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar won a silver medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo.
Tomar narrowly lost the gold medal to China's Liu Yukun by 0.2 points on the final shot.
India's mixed team air pistol duo, Esha Singh and Samrat Rana, also secured a silver medal after losing to China's Kai Hu and Qianxun Yao.
Tomar equalled the qualification world record score of 597 in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions.
India holds the second position in the medal tally behind China with three gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
