OpenAI slashes ChatGPT prices amid Kimi K3 competition
OpenAI, a big AI company, lowered the cost of its newest models.
The Luna model now costs only $0.20 for every million words it reads and $1.20 for every million words it writes.
The Terra model is also cheaper, at $2 and $12.
They also added a fast mode for the Sol model, which is twice as fast but costs twice as much.
OpenAI says these changes make its models cheaper than a popular Chinese model called Kimi K3, and they hope it will help companies save money on AI.
OpenAI cuts GPT-5.6 Luna price by 80% to $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens.
GPT-5.6 Terra price cut 20% to $2 per million input and $12 per million output tokens.
New "fast mode" for GPT-5.6 Sol offers up to 2.5× speed for double the price.
OpenAI claims its price cuts make its models cheaper than Chinese Kimi K3.
OpenAI reports 20% reduction in its own service costs and 15% improvement in token generation efficiency after using GPT-5.6 Sol.
