French Flight Attendant Wins Landmark Occupational Cancer Ruling

French Flight Attendant Wins Landmark Occupational Cancer Ruling

A French court said that Sophie Lainault’s breast cancer was connected to her work as a flight attendant.

She worked for Air France for 30 years.

Much of her work happened at night.

She was also exposed to radiation and secondhand smoke on planes.

Smoking was allowed on Air France flights until 2000.

Earlier committees had said there was not enough proof of a work connection.

Lainault kept fighting the decision for two and a half years.

The court’s ruling is final and could help other workers make similar claims.

It also means Lainault can retire early.
