Mumbai Increases Stray Cat Sterilization Efforts
Mumbai's city government is working to control the stray cat population.
Since 2019, they have sterilized over 24,000 cats.
This program started because people were complaining about cat bites.
The government has hired more groups to help catch and sterilize cats faster.
They're facing some challenges because cats can be hard to find and catch.
The city is also spending money on this effort, setting aside funds to help with the cost of spaying and neutering cats and dogs.
BMC has sterilized 24,504 stray cats since August 2019.
The sterilization program was launched in response to rising complaints about cat bite incidents.
Four new NGOs have been engaged to accelerate the sterilization efforts.
The BMC has allocated ₹6 crore for both dog and cat sterilization programs for the next three years.
Challenges include difficulty in tracking and catching cats in hard-to-reach areas.
