UAE Announces Major Tax Changes Effective 2026
The UAE is changing its tax rules starting in 2026.
Businesses will have to follow new rules for getting money back from taxes they paid, fixing mistakes in their tax reports, and dealing with tax checks.
They now have a 5-year deadline to ask for refunds, and they have a little extra time to claim old refunds.
These changes mostly affect businesses, not regular people.
The goal is to make the tax system clearer and more flexible.
UAE will implement key tax changes effective January 1, 2026, impacting VAT refunds, error corrections, and audit procedures.
A statutory deadline of five years is introduced for claiming VAT refunds or using credit balances.
Voluntary Disclosures (VDs) will no longer be mandatory for every error discovered in a tax return.
Transitional relief provides a one-year window from January 1, 2026 to claim refunds for credit balances older than five years.
The changes apply uniformly to all UAE VAT-registered persons, affecting businesses but not individual consumers.
