CM Encourages Rayati Farmers to Explore Mining
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, spoke to farmers at a rally.
She told them that they can get licenses to mine on their own land.
This is allowed for small minerals like sand and stone.
The government has already given permission for 163 private mines in five districts.
The Chief Minister said this will create jobs, just like a big coal project in Deocha-Panchami.
Farmers need to apply to the District Collector to get a mining license.
The license is good for five years or until the minerals run out.
The government wants to stop illegal mining and help farmers make money from their land.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee encouraged Rayati farmland owners to explore legal mining options on their land.
The West Bengal government has allowed 163 private mines in five South Bengal districts for minor minerals.
Rayati land is private land with direct cultivation rights, and the government introduced a policy in 2022 to allow mining on such land.
Farmers can apply for mining licenses through the District Collector, with a provisional Letter of Intent granted upon payment of fees and environmental clearance.
The Deocha-Panchami coal project, based on a mining license for Rayati land, is expected to create one lakh job opportunities.
