Rs 4.54 crore winter gear fund sanctioned for CRPF troops
The government in India wants to keep its soldiers safe and warm.
Some soldiers called CRPF commandos work very high up in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir.
They watch for terrorists who hide in the snowy hills.
The home ministry gave them more than Rs 4.54 crore to buy warm gear.
This includes sleeping bags, snow boots, gloves, tents and special cold-weather clothing made by DRDO.
About 600 soldiers will get the new equipment.
The money was given after a bad attack in April 2025 in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed.
The government built special bases, called TOBs, high in the mountains to catch the terrorists.
One of those bases helped soldiers catch the three terrorists who did the Pahalgam attack.
The Union home ministry sanctioned a special fund of more than Rs 4.54 crore for winter clothing and equipment for CRPF troops at high-altitude Temporary Operating Bases (TOBs) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The allocation will equip about 600 troops with items including DRDO-developed Himsuraksha extreme cold weather clothing, sleeping bags, snow boots, goggles and tents.
The MHA granted complete authorisation to the CRPF procurement proposal in July, and the items have a life expectancy of about two years.
The CRPF has erected 55 TOBs above 6,000 feet in Jammu and Kashmir, each housing about 15-25 armed troops for search and assault operations against terrorists.
The measure follows the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed; 'Operation Mahadev' eliminated the three responsible terrorists in July 2025.
