India Replaces Sri Lanka as 2027 Women’s Champions Trophy Host
The first Women’s Champions Trophy cricket tournament was supposed to take place in Sri Lanka.
It will now be held in India from February 14 to 28, 2027.
Games will be played in Mumbai and Vadodara.
Sri Lanka’s cricket board is being run by a committee appointed by its government.
The ICC does not allow governments to control national cricket boards.
Because of this, Sri Lanka is making changes before it can host major ICC events again.
Six teams will play each other in a round-robin competition.
The two best teams will play in the final.
India will host the inaugural six-team ICC Women’s Champions Trophy from February 14 to 28, 2027.
Matches will be played at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and Vadodara International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka lost hosting rights while its cricket administration undergoes reforms following government involvement.
The ICC said proposals from India, Bangladesh and South Africa were evaluated before India was selected.
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka qualified, with the top two reaching the final.
